Bald Eagle Freed with one shot… from a Muzzleloader!

Here’s a great story I found on the web today.  An Iowa conservation officer freed a Bald Eagle from being stuck on a tree with one shot… using a muzzleloader!  Talk about an amazing shot!

Sandholdt bent a tree sapling over to use as a brace. He used the muzzleloader’s scope to take aim, and the bullet traveled 60 to 70 feet, cleanly through the edge of the knothole. Sandholdt figures he hit the talon, too.

CVA launches an Electronic Ignition Muzzleloader

tpeterson | Equipment | Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Here’s a new advance in muzzleloading… an electronic ignition muzzleloader. Apparently, instead of a mechanical trigger, the trigger is actually a switch that ignites the charge. It’s not clear from the photo’s or the copy on the sight if it actually uses an electrical shock to ignite the powder, or if it just initiates a hammer into a cap.

It’ll will be interesting to see how well it performs in the field.

Video - Turkey shot with a Muzzleloader

tpeterson | Misc | Friday, January 5th, 2007

Here’s a nice little video I found on Youtube.com of a hunter taking a turkey with a Muzzleloader. One of my favorite parts about muzzleloaders is the smoke!  It’s like a surprise after every shot… “Did I get him?”
