Amazon.com Review
With her action-packed Hollows series, featuring former bounty hunter--and mistress of the dark arts--Rachel Morgan, Kim Harrison has become one of the hottest authors in the incredibly popular genre of sexy supernaturalism. In her latest Hollows tale, For a Few Demons More, Rachel unleashes all kinds of undead fury on the greater Cincinnati area when she tries to track down a serial killer. To catch up on the Hollows series so far, and to see the music that has inspired the stories, see below.

Music Is the Muse

For Kim Harrison, music inspires her stories, and especially her characters. In her exclusive Music Is the Muse list for us, she reveals some favorite records that have provided the source, and the soul, for Rachel, Ivy, Trent, and more of her passionate and powerful characters. Among her muses:

Bleed Like Me, Garbage

With Teeth, Nine Inch Nails

Fallen, Evanescence

Product Description

Despite dating one vampire and living with another, Rachel Morgan has always managed to stay just ahead of trouble . . . until now.

A fiendish serial killer stalks the Hollows, and no one living in or around Cincinnati—human, inhuman, or undead—is safe.

An ancient artifact may be the key to stopping the murderer—a mysterious relic that is now in the hands of Rachel Morgan, fearless independent bounty hunter and reckless witch. But revealing it could ignite a battle to the death among the vast and varied local supernatural races.

Rachel's been lucky so far. But even she can't hide from catastrophe forever.

4 out of 5 stars If you could make a forget spell, would you use it?   December 31, 2008
There are a few plot points I'm withholding opinion on until I see where they go in the next book (were they for plot convenience or were they just for the compelling emotional factor?) but overall, I thought the action and plot of the book was as good as any in the series. I was hooked from the beginning and really enjoyed the characters, setting, and interactions. Of course it's a little far-fetched and some of the things that happen are unbelievable, but then, you're reading a story where the main characters are a witch, a pixie, and a vampire. Some suspension of disbelief is required, and I do think the story is believable in the context of the setting and characters.

And as much as Rachel comes off as either lucky or blessed with good friends despite some really stupid decisions, I still really like her. Perhaps because she recognizes her faults and does try to work them out and deal with them, she seems more realistic and likable. She's not perfect, and she messes up big time now and again. But unlike some stories, she not only realizes her mistakes and agonizes over them, she pays some pretty big prices. And it's good to see consequence played out, even in fiction.

I still take issue with some of the writing and descriptions (she's still using 'grey silk voice' and 'wire-tight' far too often), but overall it's a pretty well-done (as in, easy to read) story.

If you're a fan of the series this is, of course, a book for you. If you haven't read any of the others in the series, I'd suggest you go back and read from the beginning. It's possible to read this as a stand-alone, but you won't get nearly as much from the story without the background and the setting could be a little intimidating if you haven't been eased into the storyline. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one...

AUDIOBOOK NOTE: This is narrated by the same woman who did the first four, and if you can overlook the slightly hitching style of reading (some awkward pauses in the middle of sentences, mostly) her voice is very soothing and her character voices are outstanding.

5 out of 5 stars Must read Rachel Morgan book   October 30, 2008
This book brings a lot of potential problems from the previous books to head. It just seems that Rachel takes two steps back for every one forward.

Her partner were David is having his pack challenged which means Rachel is challenged by another were. Her having the focus means everyone that wants power is after her and it. Newt is back and causing problems left and right, try re sanctifying a church, and having a demon owe her a favor. And, of course, there is Ivy and that little issue. But with everything that she has going, she still manages to survive, get it taken care of, and stay alive to face another day.

I really like this series. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I think I'm going to reread the rest just to be ready for it. This is a must read!!
