the best of Wilbur Smith June 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Years ago I was hunting close to Victoria Falls and asked my professional hunter, Fanie, "What do you read?" "Wilbur Smith." he told me. I'd never heard of him but picked up one of his books and became hooked on his Courtney novels. I liked them so much that I've turned many of my American friends on to them and everybody has enjoyed them.
Of all his novels, "Burning Shore" is my favorite. I love the way Smith has handled it. The character you think is going to the the hero is gunned down and killed in a foolish aerial duel with the Germans during the first few pages. He's not going to be our hero. It turns out our hero is a heroine and her leading man is a person she hates. I won't even attempt a synopsis. It is better you enjoy this wonderful tale without my giving it away.
