I Was A Blubbering Mess Thanks To This Book! July 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Susan Mallery has written some truly wonderful material over the years, but THIS was her masterpiece. I was prepared to despise Nathan along with the rest of the world for his cold and calculating personality, but Mallery pulled the rug out from under me. Her characters were so three dimensional and fleshed out. Kerri was a strong, gutsy woman struggling to be the perfect single Mother. A woman willing to give her very life for her dying child. I loved the 'Pretty Woman' aspect of this story. Low budget meets high stratosphere. Not quite an attainable goal for most of us in the real world, but a fun fantasy all the same. But what absolutely made me shake with tears was the desperation she displayed in clinging to faith. For everyone who has ever loved and lost with a grief that can rip your very soul apart, this book comforts that for every heartache we experience in life, there are just as many miracles. This book touched me on every level. I have rarely experienced that with a romance novel. Forget the five stars. This story earned a perfect 10.
Ultimately, touching July 3, 2008 ACCIDENTALLY YOURS is a story about love: About a mother's love, about romantic love, about the redemptive power of love.
Though the premise seems strained at first -- a young child with a painful, terminal disease and the mother who will do anything to save him -- author Susan Mallery makes her story work.
Kerri Sullivan is undeterred in her quest to find a solution for her son's illness. She is brave, she is funny, she is imaginative. Though the illness in the novel is ficticious, it could stand for any number of deadly childhood conditions.
In the process of Kerri's research, she learns of a local billionaire whose own child had died of the same condition. With difficulty and connivance, she arranges to meet him, thinking that he is the most likely candidate to fund the research for a cure.
He, however, is bitter about his son's death and not at all interested in anyone else's suffering.
So here's a woman with no time to love and a man who's too scarred to love. Of course, they do fall in love.
Despite how sad this description may be, ACCIDENTALLY YOURS actually is a humorous, clever book. Face-paced and touching, too. Susan Mallery is to be complimented.
Stayed up too late reading! June 10, 2008 I was hesitant to buy this book based on the premise - it seemed as if it had the capacity to be too heavy for what I normally prefer to read. I'll be honest, I'm a glutton for happy endings, and I was scared for a while that this one would turn out sad but I just finished it this morning and am more than pleased with it. Overall it is a great story that really draws you in - Mallery's characterization is wonderful, and as Nathan goes through his own internal struggle (though Kerri and Cody's is more visible) your heart will break and mend along with his. I totally fell in love with all of these characters - this is one I'll be re-reading for sure.
I really liked this book. April 17, 2008 Susan Mallery really made you care for the characters and all of the emotional situations they were going through. I thought this book was very good and this is one book where you REALLY want a happy ending.
A tender, wonderful, moving, fun and sexy book! April 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book actually knocked me sideways I was so taken with it! When I read Susan's comments on how the book came to be, I thought I'm not going to enjoy it.....A super mom who dresses up like Wonder Woman because her son has a terminal disease and she thinks if he believes she has super powers he will not die?
Let me tell you like 22 others have on Amazon, this is an incredible story, it is funny, it's so moving at times you're heart will ache. On top of everything else, it's steamy and sexy as well.
You will adore Kerri, her drive to find a cure for her son's disease, how she gets the funds to re-open the clinic where scientists are very close in finding the cure. And Kerri's son Cory will melt your heart.
Cynical billionaire Nathan King, you'll want him for yourself, he's that kind of driven and determined man who has lost so much, who does not believe in love until he falls under Kerri's spell. Their love story is simply beautiful!
Susan Mallery amazes me each time I read one of her books. She always delivers fun, fascinating and exceptional stories and Accidentally Yours is a book I will long remember.
