giggles and steam December 3, 2008 I liked this one marginally better than Wicked Nights for a couple of reasons. While the supernatural matchmakers are still present, there's much less nagging going on, which was a big relief, and the sex, while still the focus of the story, was less self-consciously "ooh, daring!" The featured candy this time was red blow-pops--kinda goofy and obvious, but as they weren't mentioned on every second page, I didn't mind them.
Brynn is a sex-cursed demon. For 500 years, every time he's with a woman for one hour, he's under a compulsion to strip and offer her sex. Kim is a demon hunter. Both of them want nothing more than to be "normal". Which is the third reason for liking this one a bit better--there's a reason for Kim and Brynn to fall in love, even if all we see in the story is the lust.
There's an infestation of demons in Galveston, and Kim and Brynn and the rest of the inhabitants of the Castle of Dark Dreams as well as Kim's trigger-happy demon hunting family have to band together to stop it. They're aided by Kim's sentient demon detector, a cute character in itself.
One thing I do have to mention--Bangs does a great job of fitting the characters from the previous book in naturally instead of shoehorning them in. No
"oh, look who dropped by--Joe and Sue, who got married after all these problems and Sue's already expecting a baby boy who they'll name Jimmy and gosh, we hope their dog Waldo and their cat Frisky won't be too jealous" and then they never show up again
scene. (one of my pet peeves, in case the sarcasm wasn't clear enough)
It's a cute story, but don't expect anything more than some giggles and steam.
Most Annoying Book I Ever Tried to Read July 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you enjoyed Star Wars' JarJar Binks, then perhaps you will enjoy Fo. Fo is a little pocket sized electronic character that interupts every scene. If I could have, I would have thrown the little artificial intelligent gadget on the floor and stomped it into plastic dust. Fo proved to be a major annoyance and scene killer. Every time the two main characters (and I use the term "main" loosely) began to have any kind of interaction, there was Fo, sticking her electronic nose into it. She was always there, never quiet, like an obnoxious "friend" that never leaves you alone. At one point I thought the book was saved when Fo broke, but no such luck. She was quickly fixed. I threw the book down in complete disgust shortly thereafter.
Fun and fast paced! May 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really like this series! I've read each book in the series at least twice. Nina, please write more! Your heros are so sexy!
I give it a C- April 14, 2008 I found this book lacking depth with regards to the intimacy between the two characters. I found the characters one-dimensional and vapid. Between the plants that only bloom/shrivel depending on the surrounding sexual tension, the talking cats, and the goober-dude uncle who trades his soul to the devil so he can win every fishing tournament ---- this book was super-lame.
I thought this would be a good read because of the Christine Feehan quote on the front of the book that says, "Nina Bangs delivers!". After reading it, I'm wondering what Bangs delivers.
The reason I give this a C- is that you can read through it. It has a plot and there were no major printing or proofreading snafus. As to the content, I think it was lacking significantly. I was seriously annoyed at the mention of designer clothing in every chapter. There was more discussion on Manolo Blahniks than there was character development.
Due to this book, I am avoiding any future books by this author.
Another excellent book from Bangs! November 5, 2007 This book is the second installment in the Castle of Dreams triology, and it is all about Brynn, the demon who is cursed with a sex compulsion. Turns out that whenever he spends over an hour alone with any female, he strips to the buff-no matter where he is-and asks her if she wants to have sex with him. Interesting concept! Anyway, this is a great story, and Brynn's character was very well developed. His heroine Kim was equally interesting. She comes from a family of demon hunters, but she is the odd duck in the family, having no interest in the family trade. She also has adopted Fo, the sentinent demon detector with the habit of declaring everyone in sight a demon at the top of her speaker. (Some real giggle moments there!) Add to that the cast of secondary characters that add some real hilarity to the plot, and you have a really great story. This one is sure a keeper! Four stars and two thumbs way up!
