Wild Thing September 15, 2008 Really great book! I especially like the "Warriors of Poseiden" story(ies)series. They are absolutely awesome!!! It is so easy to get "involved" in the storyline and the characters. Very intense all around.
Nice reads from a few of my favorites August 2, 2008 Liu, Shayne, and Day are a few of my more favorite authors. I've never heard of Brook before. I must say I felt Liu stole the show. What an intriguing new story line she has come up with. The beginning..."My mother was murdered on the day I turned twenty-one..." hooked me line and sinker and I was not able to put the book down again until I finished all of her 100 pages. I then made sure I had her book "The Iron Hunt," so that I could continue where the short story left off. I highly suggest fans read this short story before they read The Iron Hunt because some things described her are not explained in the novel.
I also enjoyed Maggie Shayne's book about the vet who could talk to animals. The subplot about the serial rapist was a nice angle to keep the action in the story going strong.
Alyssa Day's story with the warrior Bastien was sweet and worth the read, but I found it a bit rushed. There were characters there that were hurt or had died that I felt I should have had some emotional background to, but because it was a short story, it only felt lacking. I had already read the third novel in this series that happened to mention Bastien finding his mate. I admit I was confused about that, not realizing this short story came before. But I don't believe it made anything confusing.
Meljean Brook's short story intrigued me enough that I plan to look up other novels by her.
Liu's story like comic? March 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this anthology some stories more then others. What threw off though was that Liu's protagonist's power concept seem very similar to those of Jackie Estacado from the comic The Darkness. He also has demons that work for him and will die if he has a child because those demons will abandon him for his son. Talk about similar. Did anyone else notice this or is it just me?
disappointed in Liu March 13, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Being a fan of Liu's Dirk & Steele series, I bought this for her short story. I didn't enjoy it at all; it seemed depressing and hopeless with little-to-like-about-them characters; (I really couldn't feel fuzzy about tattoo demons who fed from filthy toilets). If it's a prelude to a new series, I won't be buying any. Fortunately I did somewhat enjoy the Shayne and Day stories.

This book is a must have for the short story lover. Each is different--no common theme here. And, each is worthy of re-reading. I particularly like the story of the Atlantean Warrior. It is the second story in current series by Alyssa Day and is referenced in the next book. Excellent bridge. First time I have read the other three authors, and will now look for other books by them. All of these stories had substance and were just steamy enough to satisfy a yearning. I highly recommend this book.
