Amazon.com One of the most daunting endeavors for any would-be do-it-yourselfer is dealing with the electrical--namely, electrical repairs, improvements, and wiring and rewiring projects. The reason for this is simple: mistakes can cause fires, major disasters and expense, and even death. But anyone can learn about safe and correct wiring in order to complete repairs or add new wiring to an aging and inadequate system. This is the book to show you how, from the basics of how electricity works and simple repairs and projects, all the way to complicated rewiring you might otherwise assume must be done by a professional. Included are the most up-to-date electrical code requirements; guides to evaluating, planning, and installing new electrical circuits; repair advice on switches, receptacles, and fixtures; and a detailed and well-illustrated lighting design section. A total of 288 pages of hundreds of illustrations and photographs and a comprehensive reference index make this an ideal book for the beginner, and an up-to-date refresher course for the professional. --Mark A. Hetts

Great for the average homeowner. August 17, 2008 I bought this because I am an avid DIYer and wanted to run electricity to my shed but was unsure exactly how I wanted to do it. Not only did this book show me what I needed to know, but it gave me more ideas for the future.
Excellent Resource for the Homeowner July 9, 2008 I live in an older house and I have had this book for a while now. It gets referenced every time I need to do electrical work. Even if I feel comfortable with what I am doing I still reference the sections pertaining to what I am doing just to make sure I am doing it right. It is very thorough and it has helped me identify electrical mistakes in my house from the previous occupants, such as reversed polarity on outlets which I was changing over to GFCI. This book is an excellent addition to any homeowners library and very much worth the 17 bucks.
awesome home wiring guide April 21, 2008 This book is in my opinion the perfect electrical guide even for the narrow minded electrical apprentice.

Outstanding Quality April 18, 2008 The book is incredibly rich with photo's showing details of each topic. I have not read through all of the content yet but what I have read is very thourough and easy to understand. The pictures tell an incredible amount of the story. I also like all of the references to related information in each section.
Nicely Illustrated April 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book to be an easy read. I have no prior electrical experience, and this book was very useful in explaining a lot of things. I own a 90 year old house, and they actually covered some of the old wiring and components that you would find in an old house. I found this to be well illustrated and thoroughly outlined. If you are new to home wiring or just unsure how to perform electrical work, I feel this book will be a good start to guide you. If you just need to replace a receptacle, install outdoor lighting, or even setup home automation, this book will be a good tool to aid you in the right direction.
