5 out of 5 stars New insight into slave tales   November 14, 2007
These delightful stories show sensitive insight into how black children were taught to cope in a white world.

Dr. Faulkner was a neighbor of my mother in historic Society Hill, S.C., in the 1890s where he said her brother was his best white friend. "Uncle Remus" is delightful, but Dr. Faulkner gives new insight into the stories as they were told to him as a boy by a former slave who lived in an apartment in his father's store. Told in his rich Charleston accent, Dr. Faulkner presents the stories that delight young and old with kindly understanding of two parallel worlds.
