Good Reminders for Me August 5, 2008 The Way of Martial Arts for Kids I have been taking Karate for 2 years. I like the book because it teaches me a lot of things about Karate. It reminds me of everything my Sensei says to to and not to do. The book tells me not to miss class so I can get higher ranks faster.
Nuggets of wisdom served in kid-sized bites August 3, 2008 Written in a personable, engaging style that will appeal to kids and adults alike, this collection of short vignettes touch upon a variety of experiences one might have as a student of the martial arts. It illustrates the many opportunities for learning and growth, not only on the dojo floor but in school and at home. Many of the stories offer simple actions for kids to try out so they can put what they read to the test in real life. As a mom who trains at the same place as my middle-school daughter, we both found the book to be an enjoyable and inspirational read that can be picked up again and again, and most importantly, put into action in our lives.
Powerful advice for kids and their parents alike August 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book really is something special. It shows how just about any child can become one of those few exemplary learners who excel in the training hall as well as in life. Written to children, it is also for parents too. After all, while the martial arts instructor knows his art, no one knows his/her child better than the parent. Together you can help your child achieve darn near anything... The advice provided is straightforward, easy to understand, and written with a child-reader in mind so that it can either be studied by the child and/or read together with the parent. The author is a phenomenal martial arts instructor who has earned black belt rank in three different arts. He has coached kids through the ranks from raw newcomers to experienced black belts. His students have gone on to become world-class scholars and business leaders.
