Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her keen insights into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness.

Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate -- a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister -- and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

My Sister's Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, in My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity.

I am an avid reader and this was my first Jodi Picoult book. I LOVED this book. I loved how she wrote each chapter from a diff character's perspective. The book was so well-written and captivating. I couldnt put it down. Even though its a long book (over 400 pgs) I read the last half for 5 hrs straight because I couldnt put it down!! I cant wait to read another book by her

5 out of 5 stars My Sister's Keeper is a definite keeper!   September 16, 2008
This book and Keeping Faith are my two favorites by this remarkable author. Keep those stories coming about families, their problems, and their resolutions. This one had a gripping story with a fantastic twist. It was also the book that got me to buy most all of Ms. Picoult's works.

5 out of 5 stars An amazing story   September 12, 2008
Jodi Picoult immediately captures her readers' minds in My Sister's Keeper when 13 year old Anna Fitzgerald is conceived as a bone marrow match for her sister Kate, who is diagnosed with leukemia. Anna has to undergo countless procedures in order to help Kate stay alive. For thirteen years this process of having Anna be Kate's donor is successful, however at age 13 Anna suddenly decides she doesn't want to be a donor anymore. She hires Cambell Alexander, a local lawyer, to help her oppose her mother, father, brother, and dying sister. This complicated trial puts the whole family into shock and debate over whether or not Anna is old enough to make this decision. The suspenseful events, especially the court scene, will keep all readers around 13 years and older at the edge of their seats. It is a wonderful story told from a few of the characters' perspectives, which keeps it fast paced and hard to put down. The novel also raises many debatable ethical issues, making it great for a book club. It makes you think about this unique situation and what you would do if you were one of the characters. This New York Times bestseller is a heartfelt story of a family that's torn between keeping one of their daughters alive, and giving their other daughter the rights she deserves as a free human being. It's a beautiful story and it would be a mistake not to read it.

5 out of 5 stars English II Honors book revies   September 11, 2008

Sister's Keeper by Judi Picoult is an intense and deeply moving novel that keeps the reader interested from chapter to chapter. This is a story about a thirteen year old girl named Anna Fitzgerald. Anna was conceived by en vitro fertilization. She was created to save her sister Kate who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Ever since Anna was born she has been donating her blood and organs to her sister to help her stay alive. Then one day Anna is asked to donate a kidney to her sister and that is the straw that broke the camel's back. She then goes to a lawyer named Campbell who has a Seeing Eye dog for what purpose he keeps a secret. She explains the situation to him and tells him that she wants to be medically emancipated from her parents, Sarah and Brian. Her dad Brian understands but her mom is absolutely furious upon hearing the news. Anna gets a guardian ad litem, Julia. Julia and her lawyer Campbell have a complicated history that is revealed throughout the novel. The book reaches its climax during the novel when Sarah decides to be the lawyer for herself. There is also a third child in the family named Jesse, who is the rebel child. Jesse drinks and smokes but his parents are to wound up in Kate's illness that they do not pay much attention to him. One memorable scene is when Campbell has a seizure in the court room, and we learn that he has an illness that causes him to have unexpected seizures. This was a great book that showed the different sides and opinions of every major character in the story because each chapter is told from a different character's perspective. This book keeps the reader interested and never bored. This is a mature book in some ways, so it is best for teenagers and above. This book may only seem appealing to girls, but I think both girls and boys would enjoy this novel.
