A very nice introduction to Hebrew, particularly for children May 29, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought several books to help teach my daughter Hebrew. The Usborne First Thousand Words in Hebrew is the one my child finds most appealing--and with good reason.
The pictures are colorful and fun. Each word is written in Hebrew and transliterated in English, making it easier for her to read and learn how the words are pronounced. The accompanying drawings help her visually associate the words with their meaning. About half the book shows the pictures again in a setting, like a house, playground or beach, so once she learned the word for dove, for example, I was able to ask her "Effo haYonah?" ("Where is the dove?"), turning the lesson into a fun game of hide and seek. Best of all, the words are correctly translated, which isn't true for the Hebrew Picture Word Book I bought together with this.
I would also recommend Teach Yourself to Read Hebrew (particularly for a child who is somewhat familiar with Hebrew prayers and words like "Shabbat") to be followed with Hebrew in 10 Minutes a Day, which is a more advanced workbook. The Usborne First Thousand Words in Hebrew, though, is the most fun of the different books I bought to teach my daughter Hebrew. I recommend it to anyone who would like to make learning Hebrew fun.
A Great Book for Beginning Hebrew Students May 12, 2007 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Whether you are a child or an adult learning Hebrew this book is a great fun way to learn. The best thing about this book, is that you learn by associating the Hebrew word with the picture of the item. This helps you to develope your Hebrew thinking skills. I definitely recommend this book.
