Bought this book on a whim, and my daughter LOVES it! July 6, 2008 I bought this book just to have one more for the promotion, and wasn't sure if my daughter would like it. I thought she might be too young to "find" the duck, but I was wrong! At 21 months, she gleefully points to the duck every time I turn the page, and proudly exclaims "Ducky!"
We have read this book with and without words. Either way, she loves it, though I think she prefers hearing the "story" that goes along with finding the duck.
We will definitely be purchasing more of this series.
New version is great January 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a more sturdy version than the previous version. Adding words is great. And it doesn't mean that you have to read the words when going through this book. We have all adlibbed, haven't we? It can be just a search book or a read to them book. Use it any way you want. It's great. It's bright, colorful, and holds up to baby's use. There are so many things to talk in this book. A great feature for special needs children is the duck on each page for them to find. Small steps learning.
Why have words? August 25, 2007 This is a great book! My daughter loves it, as do I.
The only part that bugs me are the words. They say the duck has a beak, but don't ducks have bills? I would rather not read the words at all and just have fun looking at the pictures with my daughter.
Great book for babies... April 18, 2007 This book is adorable, and my 8 1/2 mo. daughter loves it. The duck isn't too hard to find for young ones, the illustrations are really cute, and my favorite part is the baby looks just like my baby, down to the mop of curly hair and pudgy face. I'm definitely going to check out the other books in this series. Great choice for your little reader.
Disappointed that the new version added words! July 1, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you were lucky enough to purchase this and the other books of this very unique children's series before 2000, then you got the version without words. I found this endearing because the books characters and the action taken by the little one reading the book needed no words to prompt him or her. Unfortunately the new version has words to accompany the pictures and kind of ruins it for me. Instead of "Find the Duck" it should be called "Your Mommy will read the words and tell you where the duck is!" And they also changed the size of the book (its now bigger and too heavy for the 2-4 age range of the book) and added color backgrounds to the covers. I still think the series makes a good gift.
