Product Description This is a legendary work by the famed Swiss expert on guerrilla warfare, Major H. von Dach. Survivalists have rediscovered this important study on resistance and underground operations, some making it the keystone of their libraries. Well-written and illustrated with easy-to-understand drawings, Total Resistance analyzes and overviews the techniques needed to overcome an invading force, formation of guerrilla units, weapons, food and medical considerations, ambushes, sabotage and much more.

Guerilla warfare for Dummies July 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have always been interested in guerilla warfare but almost every book out there is written about how to counter and insurgency usually written by some US officer who has vague knowledge learned in some military college. Not this book its by an expert in guerilla warfare and is completely no holds bare in its information. Everything from using propaganda successfully and winning the trust of the local citizens to destroying bridges and spotting informants is covered in this book. the only complaint i have is that the text is somewhat small and hard to read on some pages and pictures are kind of blurry which is somewhat irritating. Aside from these minor problems I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in unconventional warfare, and in the troubling times we are in now who knows you might actually need this book someday to wage your own guerilla war.
P.S. a person who reviewed the book said that guerilla war doesn't work and eventually is defeated.....well I guess he skipped the page and a half at the beginning that listed major successful guerilla conflicts, thats not even including the successful guerilla operations waged after 1956 when this book was first published
And never forget resistance is not futile!!!!

Good for civilian resistance February 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The best "How to do" book that I've found for what now is called "4th Generation War". Most books on this topic are about how to fight against resistance fighters, i.e. "counter insurgency" - such as road blocks, house searches, etc.. This book is the opposite: how to do guerrilla/resistance/underground/5th Column. The technological parts is, granted, outdated. The theory and the organization of civilian resistance is the best that I've seen.
The book is a manual for the Swiss Army and population (Switzerland doesn't have an army; Switzerland IS an army) if and when Switzerland might be "conquered" by a foreign power. Yet its principles could be used in combating a domestic tyrant.
Given the current political situation, one has the disturbing impression that one reads this book for the future.
The Table of Contents (briefly):
Part I. ORGANIZATON AND CONDUCT OF GUERRILLA WARFARE 1. Purpose of Guerilla Warefare 2. Organizaton of Guerrilla Warfare 3. Tactics of Guerrilla Units 4. How an Enemy with Modern equipment will Operate Against Your Guerrilla Detachment
Part II: ORGANIZATION AND OPERATION OF THE CIVILIAN RESISTANCE MOVEMENT [best part of book] 1. Organization 2. Enemy Organization 3. Operations of the Resistance Movement
Closing Remarks
Total Resistance January 2, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Not only is this book comprehensive, it is easy to read without being excessive. It details just about everything you need to run a guerilla war... However, a few scenarios and thus ideas are a bit out of date as far as the technological measures the occupying force can employ. Nevertheless, I find it to be enlightening and can relate some of his ideas to those employed by current insurgents...though of course, not in their entirety, since they haven't won!
The Swiss are certainly prepared for anything! August 19, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
In his landmark book, Total Resistance, the Swiss Army Guide to Guerrila Warfare and Underground Operations, Major Von Dach has certainly expanded my mind and has shown through practical participation how all can resist tryanical invaders, whenever and wherever the forces of tyrany raise their ugly head. Despite the fact that it was writen in 1958 and released in the United States in 1965, the portons of the book especially devoted to the organization and mobilization of the occupied citizenry are still very much up to date when dealing with the means to combat and defeat those with tyranical designs on any population who's maxium "Death rather than Slavery!"
