Dean Grennel puts his witty prose and wordsmithing abilities to good use in this which can be seen as a good primer on the subject of autoloading pistols.Beginning with a brief history of firearms in general, the book takes the reader through how the autoloading pistol came to be and goes all the way to the latest developments of the time when the tome was written.
Grennel's predilection for the 1911-type pistol and his love for the Colt Woodsman (which gets a chapter of its own) are clear throughout the text, but he gives a good account of the mainstream guns of the day.
Filled with personal annectodes to illustrate the author's views, the book is not only fun and easy reading but informative as well. There is even a chapter on reloading for the auto-pistol, although the subject gets mentioned in most of the chapters.
Overall, a good and very informative book. Beginners and experienced auto-pistol users both can benefit from reading it.
For those who appreciate Dean's writing style, it's a must-have.
