5 out of 5 stars SHOOT-MOVE-COMMUNICATE KALASHNIKOV STYLE!   September 21, 2008

As a SOF Operator this book has helped me to break my AR15/M4 mind-set while training Afghan troops and has allowed me to improve my training program and improve my student's capabilities with the AK platform. It allowed me to befriend this super weapon platform and embrace it for what it is and is not. During training and operational use in OEF XII it has continually matched and in a lot of cases out matched the M4 in durability, accuracy (with ammo out of Romania) and killing power (Just a note, by no means am I putting the M4 down, I absolutely love my M416, but many times to blend in I must use what the natives use, the AK). Ultimately I believe it is not the weapon system that makes a good gunfighter but the training one receives to employ his chosen "tool" of the trade. This book hammers this principle home! This book is over 100 pages of tactics, techniques and procedures for running the AK properly and effectively. Some of the topics covered include; zeroing procedures, transitioning to pistol, marksmanship skills, reloading, CQB sighting, weak hand shooting, firing positions, clearing stoppages, battle tactics, AK combatives and host of other relevant information. I highly recommend this book to anyone who operates, owns or is thing of buying an AK series rifle, whether you are a prepared citizen, law enforcement or military. I would also like to recommend the "Official Soviet AKM Manual" by Gebhardt as a companion book to Suarezs title.

5 out of 5 stars The best manual written on FIGHTING with the AK   February 3, 2008

This is probably one of the very few books written which discusses the various aspects of deploying the Kalashnikov in a fighting capacity and a very well written and concise one, at that.

There is no aspect of the martial use of the AK which does not get some attention within the pages of KRGF. Even the use of the bayonet is briefly mentioned though rather than attempting to re-invent the wheel here, Suarez lists some excellent source material for learning to use the AK in a hand to hand combat capacity.

From the basics of manipulating the safety to the loading and unloading of the AK(in both the administrative and combat environment) to the basic fundamentals of the integrated act of firing a gun(sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, breathing, follow through) to emergency immediate reaction drills for dealing with malfunctions while in the heat of the battle - all are covered in great detail as well as more intermediate subjects such as ambidextrous gunhandling and individual battle drills
(IADs to take when under fire).

While some parts of this book such as the gunhandling aspects for clearing malfunctions and keeping the rifle running are specific to the AK itself many of the other subjects covered i.e. basic field firing positions, locating the source of enemy fire, etc, can be applied across the board to any rifle.

Of the dozens of combat shooting instructors I've had the privelege of learning from over the years Gabe Suarez has remained one of the best in an ever growing and crowded field. He has managed to do so by consistently maintaining the cutting edge both in terms of his ever evolving/improving cirriculum (spurred on by endless resreach and R&D as well as cross training with others in any and all related fields) as well as his ability to impart his considerable wealth of knowledge to his students and this book is but one more example of that.
