5 out of 5 stars a new view on jinis   November 3, 2008
These are amazing books on wizards, jinis and more. They are a must for anyone who enjoys non-fiction. One of my favorite series. - a 6th grade fiction lover

4 out of 5 stars Bartimaeus   October 20, 2008
Bartimaeus is one of the greatest single characters I have ever come across. I really enjoyed the chapters from his perspective and the author's use of footnotes which are unique and funny.

The other main character Nathaniel was hugely frustrating to me, just because he isn't your typical main character. I felt like any development with him was usually in the opposite direction than i would have liked. Kitty in the later two books makes up for him though and helped to lessen my frustration.

I must say that each of the three books were entertaining and the ending of the series is far better than any series that I have come across. After the ending i no longer had any more frustrations for Nathaniel and I completely appreciate the Author's idea/path/development for him.

I would recommend reading these books just for Bartimaeus and the ending. Even if you find yourself a little frustrated in the middle, this series is well worth it in the end.

4 out of 5 stars Great story!   August 14, 2008
I was highly entertained by these books. The characters are multifaceted and challenge readers to examine the responsibilities of society's decision makers. There are a lot of footnotes that add to the story, so they shouldn't be ignored--they add a lot of humor! I recommend these books even for Harry Potter fans. It was interesting to contrast these two magical worlds.

4 out of 5 stars Nicely done It is a very entertaining trilogy. A young man magician (Nathaniel) is looking for guidance and when he doesn't find   June 25, 2008
This is a very entertaining trilogy. A young man magician (Nathaniel) is looking for guidance and when he doesn't find it with those close to him, he summons a Djinni and finds himself in a different and witty adventure as he tries to keep the Djinni under control.
On the second book Nathaniel is sent to find the culprit of an horrible attack. He needs to find him before the non-magical resistance finds their own weapon and overthrows the magicians.
The third book is as good as the other two as the characters lives intertwine with each other throughout the story to bring a surprising ending to the series. Very good reading.

5 out of 5 stars I wish there were more than 3 books   May 31, 2008
Yep, my only complaint about the Bartimaeus trilogy is that there are only 3 books of Bartimaeus-goodness. He made me laugh, and the entire set was very well written. I'm in my late 20s, and didn't realize until after I'd read them that they were for "young adults". Oops. Well, I hadn't noticed, honestly. It's a great read for any adult.

I loved this trilogy. Highly recommended!
