Setting: Three Sisters Island

Sensuality: 7

A stunningly beautiful, powerful witch who possesses the gift of Fire, Mia Devlin locked her heart away when Sam Logan rejected her youthful love and left Three Sisters Island. Eleven years later, Sam returns to the island to claim Mia and take over his family business, the Magick Inn. Passion still burns between them, but Mia refuses to trust the man who once tore her life apart, leaving her grieving and alone. It's imperative that they find a way to resolve their thorny, complicated relationship for time is running out and the deadline for breaking a centuries-old curse is near. Mia has the steadfast aid of her two sisters of the heart, powerful witches that rule Air and Earth, but without Sam's help, even Mia's powers may not be enough to keep her alive until the deadline. And unless Mia makes the right choice about her heart and Sam, evil may win in the final confrontation, destroying all their lives and Three Sisters Island as well.

Face the Fire is the third and last book in bestselling author Nora Roberts's trilogy of witches, magic, and an age-old curse that began with Dance upon the Air and Heaven and Earth. This novel boasts a vivid seaside setting, sympathetic characters, and enough details about the practice of magic to intrigue the most cynical of readers. This is Roberts at her best. Don't miss it. --Lois Faye Dyer

Product Description
Mia Devlin knows what it is like to love with your whole heart - and then watch your love walk away. Years ago, she and Sam Logan shared an incredible bond built on passion, legend, and fate. But then one day he fled Three Sisters Island, leaving her lost in memories of the magic they shared - and determined to live without love.

The new owner of the island's only hotel, Sam has returned to Three Sisters with hopes of winning back Mia's affections. He is puzzled when she greets him with icy indifference - for the chemistry between them is still sizzling and true. Angry, hurt and deeply confused, Mia refuses to admit that a passion for Sam still burns in her heart. But she'll need his help - and his powers - to face her greatest, most terrifying challenge. And as the deadline for breaking a centuries-old curse draws near, they must take the first steps toward destiny - and come together to turn back the dark...

2 out of 5 stars Face the Boredom...   September 28, 2008

It has to be said at the outset that Nora Roberts is not my kind of novelist. Browsing in a library, I would never idly pick her book up. They have bland, uninspiring covers and bland, forgettable titles - nothing to catch the eye. That said, I'm not sure that excuses the level of cliched and crudely-handled writing apparent here.

I have problems with paranormal romance as a concept, but a good story is a good story, and I have been won over by good writing to many things I would never have willingly selected for myself. Not so here.

I don't read Nora's books, or anything like Nora's books, or indeed the sub-genre at all, and I still knew all the ins and outs of this one. Nora never surprises us with an odd slant or take, a new or refreshing approach, or any form of originality at all. Instead she plods along, throwing us stale idea after stale idea, writing by numbers, because, assumably, that's what her fans want.

We get crystals and crystal balls, herbs and spells, wands and brooms, and a feisty witch heroine who just happens to have magnificent red hair and green eyes. And this is intended for adults. Amazing. But it doesn't stop there. We have an arrogant, 'difficult' hero who's hurt her badly but is now repentant and, of course, completely overwhelmed by desire for her. There's female bonding, a warm protective mother figure, lots of food and pretty gardens, and a supernatural 'threat' as menacing as a pint of milk on an empty stomach.

I appreciate this is meant to be wish-fulfilment, but are readers really so easily fulfilled? And are their wishes as sad and hackneyed as this?

I don't know if this is a sadder testimony to lazy, tired writing or to readers who actively want this kind of perpetual feeding off your own vomit.

I feel it really merits 1 star but I give it 2 for the sheer kudos Nora deserves for both being able to write this stuff and then sell it. Now that's a skill. And quite the most depressing one I've seen on a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Nora Roberts Face the Fire   June 2, 2008
Its been a long time since I've enjoyed a trilogy as much as I have the Three Sister's Island books. The third book finished out the story of these wonderfully different women and their special talents. It was so much fun to read all three that I hated to see it end. I could read this trilogy again. Something I don't do often. If your going to read one, plan on reading all three. You won't want to have just one.

The heroin in this book would make any women wish she were her! I was sad to finish this series.

Mia Devlin is a strong beautiful witch that owns a bookstore/cafe on Three Sisters. She keeps buried a deep hurt from her childhood when the love of her life, Sam Logan, left her broken just out of high school.

Sam is back, and he is determined to win Mia back. He knows what a mistake he made leaving. He was so young, and the powerful emotions she brought out in him scared him, so he ran. Sam is also a witch, and he is willing to use whatever it takes to gain Mia's trust.

Mia and Sam must find their way back to each other, or they will not have the strength for the upcoming fight of their lives.

A great finish to the series. I liked that Mia was fire and Sam was water - fire & ice!

What is wrong with Nora Roberts? Her latest books about witchcraft and devils?? This is so not her. I long for a good book like her "THe Villa" or some of her past books with some depth and character development. I could not finish them and took them back to the dealer. Ick!
