5 out of 5 stars Effective and Flexible   April 16, 2008
I've had this book since it came out and I am still recommending it to people. The work-outs can be adjusted for different fitness levels but they will take you as far as you want to go. You can't really outgrow this book.
I like the way it is broken up into phases- strength, cardio- this is better than doing the same mix throughout the year. Stretching and flexibility are not forgotten either.
My beginner friends liked the introduction to pyramiding reps (a good trick to increase puul-up/push-up reps)and the fact that you don't need to be in a gym every day. Quite a lot can be done outdoors or at home.

I run across very few other work out schedules that can be used for such a range of fitness levels. It isn't gimicky or sport specific, it's for all around fitness.

5 out of 5 stars Tough Workouts   November 1, 2007
The workout plans in this book are incredible. I am not too far into the first 13 week workout plan but I can definitely see that you have no choice but to get in shape if you follow the workouts the best you can. I will definitely look into Stew Smith's other workout books.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book   August 12, 2007
This is a great book with workouts which definitely do challenge you. The program uses a broad range of different exercises to help you become fit, as well as a good stretching routine to help you become more flexible. It also features a section on nutrition as well, to help you orient your eating habits to acheive your fitness goals.

It features workout charts which are set up to give you a routine to follow which switches every couple of weeks, so you don't get bored with your workout. The program is a year-round program, and the workout charts are set up accordingly, so you know what you are supposed to be doing on which days.

The reason I gave it a 4-star rating was for two reasons. (1) The workout charts seem as though they weren't edited very well, and can sometimes be confusing. (2) People with very hectic schedules might find it hard to fit this workout into their lives. The book does provide a few faster workouts, in case you're traveling and need something on the go which will still push you; however, I think this book was written for people who are serious about getting fit and are committed to dedicating time to get there.

5 out of 5 stars Get Into Shape Fast   April 9, 2007
Don't be fooled by the title. This book is a great all-around fitness manual. Anyone entering the Army will want to check out this program.

This book covers everything, weights, cardio, flexibility, cycling and combat conditioning. If you want a book that covers all around fitness written by a guy that "knows a thing or two" about fitness, you won't be disappointed.Mr. Smith takes the best of all workouts and puts it into one book.Maximum Fitness should be in everyone's fitness library.
