ISBN 13: 978-158160-099-5, SC 161 pgs. 6 Chapters and Bibliog. 1 pg. 11" x 8.5". Inveiglements include numerous B&W photographs and large detailed drawings of tattoos & signing (street signals).
Authors both experienced correctional officers, 20 and 8 years respectively, for Nevada State Prison, bring expertise to study of gangs in the U.S. Herein they detail the composite of gangs both inside prisons and on the streets, the methodology of gang origin, initiation rituals for membership, gang identification, oaths and activities. The history and composition of prison and street gangs is carefully specified for various gang types that includes White Hate Groups, African American, Hispanic, Asian & Pacific Islander, & Russian.
Interesting commentary is provided on the origin of gangs, motivations to join, targets of gang members and groups they protect. The various oaths, allegiances, requirements, duties and street signing and gang identifying markings (tattoos) are profusely illustrated. Interpretation of tattoo symbols, numbers, and calligraphy is shown. This book is particularly valuable in having the chronology of U.S. gangs and identifying marks brought together under one cover. It is more than an introduction to gangs for other books can be viewed as supplements to this encompassing, detailed monograph.

I may be off base as far as gang activity in other areas of the country but this book focuses so much on the tats of white supremists I didn't find it to be as useful as I had hoped. I am working with younger, homegrown local gang members on the east coast who are loosely affiliated with the Bloods. While this has a bit of info, there is much more out there that this author did not touch on.

this book covers alot of the different prison gangs and gives not only thier history but tat's warn by thier members. It is very informitive and shows both drawings and photos of ink behind the walls.

I have found the book to be quite useful. The information is not up to the second, but it is a great starting point and reference.
It was shipped promptly and arrived in excellent condition.
