| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Faculty-Librarian Relationships illustrates how academic librarians can enjoy a healthy working partnership with the faculty they serve. Though geared towards those new to the profession, the book is for any librarian interested in learning more about this often-complex relationship. A major thrust of the book is an exploration of what makes faculty members tick. Helpful strategies are provided for librarians working with faculty in the areas of collection development and information literacy. The book also includes a number of interviews conducted with faculty members so that librarians have living examples of their thoughts, concerns and suggestions regarding libraries and librarians.

Great from both sides of the fence! September 12, 2007 I'm a former librarian (medical-academic and medical-corporate) who went on for her PhD in a related field; I'm now full-time faculty in a library school at a major research university in the Midwest. As a former working librarian AND a PhD holding faculty member, I can't recommend this book highly enough. It does what it intends to do -- place the academic librarian firmly in the confusing center of academic information practice in the 21st century -- but it is also an excellent reader's guide to academic life. All the comments from faculty interviewed in the book are 100% accurate about what it's like to be a faculty member today. In fact, I find it so accurate that I've just recommended the book to everybody in my doctoral seminar.
I really wish this book had existed when I was an academic librarian -- it would have made these people SO much easier to understand!
Great for general readers too December 13, 2005 This is a great book for any lover of libraries. It has a lot to say about the lives and work of those mysterious, all-knowing folks at the reference desk. I think it would be especially interesting to new college students who are just getting comfortable using a large research library. It helps you see librarians as teachers who are ready to help you succeed in school, and not just as the folks who collect late fees and shush you for chatting with your friends.
Future Librarian's View June 28, 2005 Faculty-Librarian Relationships is an excellent work detailing the interwoven dynamics between academic librarians and the faculty they work with. Jenkins' extensive research personal experience with the subject provides valuable insight to this important aspect of academic librarianship. The use of faculty interviews within the text allows the reader to see both sides of the relationship, as well as giving merit to Jenkins' theories presented in the book. As a future Library and Information Sciences student I found this book to be very enlightening, as it gave me a good idea of what to expect in future career.
