4th Edition Is Awesome July 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have lived and camped in Michigan all my life and this is the best guide to Michigan State Parks that I have ever seen. (Referring to the 4th edition.) It provides an overview of the layout, facilities, and camping options for every State Park and National Park in Michigan. The overview for each park is admittedly not very long (usually only a couple of pages) but the book covers 106 different parks in 262 pages. The reviews generally include a maps and photos. Even though I've already been to many of the parks listed, I consider this an indispensable camping guide.
Contrary to some of the other Amazon reviews (which I assume were for earlier editions of the book) the 4th edition does cover the four National Parks in Michigan. Additionally, many (although not all) campground maps now include site numbers.
Almost a complete guide. September 8, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A good source for Michigan State and National parks. Good narratives and directions. However, park maps are small with no camping spot numbers marked, this is essential information when making reservations over the phone. If this info were included with the book... a solid 5 stars.
Complete, Maybe for State Parks July 17, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Overall, this is a pretty good book. It claims to be a "Complete Guide" - but there is very little coverage of National Parks in Michigan. None that I could think of, and that I wanted to research, were listed.
The coverage of the State parks is good, however, if you're looking for National Park coverage, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Michigan camper's "bible" June 15, 2002 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
My family and I enjoy camping and visiting the State parks all over Michigan. I have found this book to be very accurate, and helpful. There are easy-to-read descriptions of the parks, and great maps included. Color photographs would have been a nice feature to the book, but the loads of information inside make up for it. I highly recommend this book!
comprehensive michigan state park review December 16, 1998 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This book carefully explains each park, allowing for the advantages and disadvantages. I found it extremely helpful in planning our camping adventures in Michigan. I only wish Ohio's parks were as nice. This book is a must have for picking a place to camp anywhere in Michigan.
