| Editorial Reviews:
Book Description Real self-defense is not a movie, game, or sport. While martial arts may teach disciplined thoughts and movements, most come up short when it comes to self-defense and survival in brutal, real-world attacks. Patterned, choreographed techniques are often useless amid the chaos and random dynamics that characterize life-and-death fights. Attack Proof presents a proven personal protection system for anticipating and fending off even the most brutal assaults. It's based on the insights, real-world experiences, and forensic research of a New York cop who is a teacher of hand-to-hand combat instructors in the military and police forces and who survived over 100 violent armed and unarmed encounters. Attack Proof trains you to become a martial "realist" by abandoning all forms and techniques in favor of principles that teach "guided chaos". Attack Proof is the next best thing to having your own personal bodyguard.

Excellent book June 26, 2008 This is an excellent book on self defense. I must humbly disagree with the reviewer who says that this book is not useful for a beginner, I think the techniques, drills and principles discussed in this book are useful for anyone, whether a beginner or advanced martial artist. I have only a limited background in martial arts (I studied karate for a few months, plus a little bit of aikido) but I think this is one of the best books on self defense I have ever read. Other good books I would recommend are "Complete Krav Maga" by Levine and Whitman and "Get Tough" by Fairbairn. If you have a little bit more money to spare, the DVD X-Tec available from TRS Direct shows some good self-defense techniques as well, although at approx $70, it is a bit expensive.
Comprehensive guide to chaos March 10, 2008 Simply fascinating and 100% useful information to prevail when the chaos of combat begins!!! One of the best books on self defense I've ever read.
Too advanced for beginners. November 30, 2007 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book might be useful for those who have a self-defense training background, but it will not help a beginner.
Book was a gift November 25, 2007 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am very pleased with this purchase in that the price was reasonable and the delivery was quick.
Very Different Than Most August 17, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own numerous books on self-defense and I must say this is very different. I think I will have to practice the exercises to make use of the information contained here (as opposed to remembering the "dirty dozen"). However, I must say that in my younger days a I had a lot of fights, and the one or two times I instinctively did some of what is in this book I came out a lot better (less bloodied) than the times I tried to duke it out. At the very least, yielding can lessen the damage done. But if you think you are just going to read this and be able to defend yourself guess again. It requires some time and practice.
