Dated, but still has some relevant information September 1, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
With the revelation of well-documented facts that al-Qaida operatives have been sneaking across the Mexican border for years and bringing "suitcase" nukes with them for an operation called "American Hiroshima," there is still a need for nuclear survival skills and planning.
The title is a take-off of the Cold War slogan from the 50's, "Better dead than Red," and the main thrust of the information is surviving the aftermath of a nuclear attack from Russia. In that regard, parts of the book are dated, such as maps showing the most likely targets (which I discovered from government sources to be highly accurate, by the way.)
The rest of the book is applicable no matter who were to nuke us. There are plans for blast shelters, fallout shelters (If you don't know the difference, you need this book.), survival supplies, and long-range planning.
With the end of the Cold War books of this sort are in short supply, despite the fact that this knowledge could make the difference between really surviving the aftermath of a nuclear attack, or merely getting by - or even dying.
