5 out of 5 stars Be careful what you ask for   March 26, 2008
I've owned one of these barrels for around eight years and put about a hundred rounds through it. Shooting a decent rifle cartridge out of a pistol could best be described as an acquired taste. There are many things you can do wrong which will give you a negative experience, most of these can be classified as holding on too hard or trying to prevent movement under recoil. This is foolish. The gun will move under recoil, so if your elbows are on the bench or your arm is locked out, or your off hand is under the butt then you will get bruised.

On the other hand if you take a firm grip, don't want to drop the gun, but remain loose through the elbow and shoulder then the gun just kicks up a bit. I a solid bang, but not unpleasant like shooting a 416 Rigby in a normal weight rifle or even 3 1/2" maximum shotgun shells. Not even as unpleasant as a 2" 357 with full power loads actually.

So... how does it shoot? Reasonably accurately. I can't guarantee that it's as accurate as the 223 Remington barrel, with that I can shoot 1" target patches at 100 yards without any trouble; the recoil from the 308 prevents me from taking that sort of bench rest shot. But it's certainly under two inches at 100 yards. If I was willing to shoot it off sandbags for ten or twenty rounds I expect it would be as accurate as the 223. But that's not what I got it for, I got it for taking bucks at short range.

At 30 yards the Hornady Light Magnum 150gr Super Shock took my last buck down in after about a 30 yard run, it penetrated completely leaving a destroyed heart and lungs in its wake. Any more power than that is useless at the ranges I can accurately shoot a pistol in a hunting situation.
