Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Ion changed the paintball paradigm by being the first marker to deliver true electropneumatic performance in the casual paintball player's price range. With multiple firing modes, an aggressive rate of fire and break-beam Vision anti-chop system, the Ion' XE' continues the Ion' tradition of tournament level performance at a low price. An all new Bolt-Out-Back design makes this new Ion easier to maintain than ever before. One allen wrench is all that is needed to remove the bolt sleeve, bolt and bolt stop from the rear of the marker, providing complete access to the entire bolt and valve assembly in seconds. 4 out of 5 stars Smart Parts ION, good to go   September 19, 2008
The gun is not plastic! The changeable outer cover is some sort of composite, but the internals are all metal. My biggest downfall is having to program the darn thing. I expect something to work right out of the box. To make the issue worse, the battery which came with it was defective. It had enough power to be a tested good but not enoght to run the gun properly. Once changed the battery to a new one and got programmed, it rips! I love the gun and there is nothing that sprays paint faster or farther without spending close to a grand! Worth the money! For those who say it feels like plastic.... well maybe because IT IS COVERED IN PLASTIC, NO BIG DEAL!

5 out of 5 stars good gun but a little pricy   June 6, 2008

this gun is great but for players who no how 2 clean a high tech gun its ok stock u dont need a drop but i would suggest a different feedneck and a different barrel to get immediately you do have to invest a litlle money on this marker but then it turns out great

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Gun   December 25, 2007
Ive been playing paintball for a while now with a stock Tippmann 98, its a good woodsball gun but i like speedball. After reserch for a gun under $250 i decided to get a Smart Part Ion. My mom payed for some of it for my christmas so i got it today. I brought a Diablo hopper (15bps for my stock Ion) and a 48ci 3000psi Pure energy tank. I knew with all this stuff it would be heavy, but its still not as heavy as my tippmann with a 20oz tank.I put 135 paintballs in the hopper and turned it on, i could hit anything I pointed it at, and it is very quiet compared to my tippmann and about half the kick the tippmann had. People always say 17bps is slow but i cant afford one of them 25bps because you would go through 500 paintballs in 5 min. So if you are looking for a good reliable gun i would choose the Ion. But i would recomend looking on youtube to learn how to disassemble and reassemble.

2 out of 5 stars Over rated!   June 12, 2007

I used this gun one time and was very disapionted a diablo moongoose fires better and faster and it has eyes this gun was over rated If you want a good gun under 300 get a electra 06 it shoots better more acurate way less choping and it uses compressed air or co2 And not to mentoin the rocking triger all in all DONT GET THIS GUN UNLESS your expecting problems in the future. A paintball shop owner showed me how long it takes to clean if u want this gun to last. an electra is extemly eay to clean if 240 is to much get the mongoose2 it has all the features of an ion and its 50 dollars cheaper

5 out of 5 stars Best for price =)   March 27, 2007
This gun is the best in its price range. It kicks any spyders but any day even the new vs series and their stupid rocker trigger. I it is perfect for people new to the sport of paintball. It is easy to take apart clean lube and upgrade. Not to mention that this is one of the most customizable guns out there. If you are new or transferring form mechanical markers to eletric this is a great gun to start with.
