love it April 5, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up this book at a bargain bin, and I had to buy all of the books following this one to see what happened next. It gave a lot of insight as to the Amish way of life and made me understand their customs better. I really enjoyed it.
It gets even better. February 10, 2006 "The Sacrifice" is a wonderful addition to this series. I was able to fall right back into the lives of the characters even after not reading the last book for some months. I found this book to show a lot of growth within the characters, and I didn't realize how caught up I was in their lives until the losses and additions of characters were brought about. While the previous two books showed the "pleasant" side of Amish life, this book makes you question many Amish beliefs, and I think author Beverly Lewis is very talented to be able to do this. I recommend.
Great book! February 27, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've read the first 2 in the series so far, and finally found this one as well. The story of the Ebersol family continues in The Sacrifice. Leah is still angry and hurt at losing the love of her life to her banned sister, Sadie. She's patiently trying to cope with the loss of her mother, raise the 2 young children her mother left behind, court a man that has been in love with her from her childhood, put up with a hard-to-deal-with, grief-stricken father, and still manage to have some fun at the same time. I have to say, there is a small, but very good twist in the book at the very end and I did not see it coming at all. It totally took on a new meaning for me then. It's a must read, but I must say, if you haven't first read The Covenant and The Betrayal (in that order), then you won't really catch what's going on.
The Sacrifice January 30, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Sacrifice was my favorite so far in the series. There was a lot of emotion to be felt and the author did a great job of keeping up suspense. I am looking forward to reading the final book in the series, The Prodigal.
The best one so far! January 2, 2005 To date this one is my favorite! It may not have speed of the other novels, but makes up for it in the storyline about Leah's Mama. Finding out more about Leah's Mama (adoptive mother) and her relationship with Christ was facinating, and seeing the mother's strenght even through the battle of her life, was inspiring. Leah also comes into her own in this book, she takes on new rolls as mother and caregiver, and you can truely feel her joy and burden.
