2 out of 5 stars OK. . . but not your best resource   March 1, 2006

Seriously. . . who has ever gone to TEA? This book was semi helpful as a new Army wife in learning the basic structure of Military life. But, I learned much more practical information by joining online groups. I would recommend checking it out from the library - but it is not needed in your home library.

4 out of 5 stars Great for new Military Wives!   November 23, 2005

My husband recently joined the Air Force and I decided to buy as many books as I could about the life of a military spouse. This particular book was very informative, it has everything you will ever need to know as a military wife, from housing to pay and benefits. I highly recommend this book to all military wives!

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Resource   October 23, 2005

This book has both historical and practical info. I loved it. I don't understand the comments that say you can "get the info for free on base." Where on base? That's the point. As a new wife I don't always KNOW where to get info, but as a SMART wife, I research where to get it. Part of that research is reading books like this. Maybe other people randomly walk around offices on base looking for info, but I don't. My time is more valuable. Plus, if I don't know what questions to ask, gathering info is harder. The info given was deeper and more thorough than the cartoon pamphlets given on base, anyhow. The author has done all this legwork for me and put it between two covers. That's worth the money to me. Besides, all the quotes from experienced military wives aren't found in base pamphlets.

I appreciated the book's objectivity. I sought a reference, not a novel. And I got it.

4 out of 5 stars good but...   July 26, 2005

Again, this is a good book but you can get the same info from base for free. So if you want to waste your money and get it then fine but otherwise save your money and get the info free.

I found this book to be better than any other wife book I've read to date. There was so much up-to-date info in all one place and I really appreciated that it was catered to all services. For those who say the book is outdated, I got the fifth edition and didn't see anything that needed to be updated.
