Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary June 10, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have never found a more comprehensive dictionary in my experience with the English and Spanish Languages. Aside from being very helpful because of its guide to Spanish pronunciation, it includes useful color coded tabs, and even a list of currencies from Spain and Latin America. I would recommend this dictionary to anyone who needs the tools for everyday as well as academic bilingualism. It is a very impressive dictionary and I will never buy another one (unless this one is revised again).
A solid choice for Spanish literature March 12, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have been using this dictionary to help with Spanish poetry and literature this semester, and it has been extremely helpful. I have been able to find all but a few words in here. Good multiple definitions provided to cover the various usages of each word; even subtle distinctions noted. Pages clearly marked and easy to use.
My only complaints are: several typographical errors that I have noticed, and does not explicitly indicate el/la or masc/fem for nouns (must determine from example sentences).
This dictionary was originally published in Spain, so all the pronunciation guides are for a generalized Spanish dialact--I wouldn't recommend it for beginning speakers of Latin-American Spanish, as it may be confusing (or simply overwhelming in its sheer size!). For intermediate to advanced speakers on either side of the Atlantic, though, I feel this would be a solid choice.
Good dictionary with bargain price! October 24, 2004 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I found this dictionary at my local Barnes & Nobles. I heard of Velazquez dictionary before but have never use it. I compared it with Oxford, VOX and Harper Collins; Velazquez has more entries and it costs less. Many words I couldn't find at others, I could find them at Velazquez. It's a bargain to buy this dictionary at Amazon because my local Barnes & Nobles charges $26.95 plus tax.
Misspelling on Page 884 "venajo" should be "venaje" October 11, 2004 2 out of 19 found this review helpful
The worst thing a dictionary can do is misspell a rather common word....Page 884 (Spanish) of the 2003 edition has "venajo" and it should be "venaje" Check Cassell's or Larousse Gran Usual....It is unfortunate that the "old" Velazquez is being handled so poorly by the new owners....

Simply the best August 26, 2003 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I work for a bilingual newspaper in Puerto Rico and this is by far the best Spanish/English dictionary I've ever encountered. Concise and linguistically modern, this dictionary will save you plenty of momentary confusion.
