5 out of 5 stars What your shotgun training should include   March 27, 2007

The Bounty Hunter breakin here in Phoenix in '97 prompted me to take up the defensive shotgun. I found a local school and began the thrilling task of learning how to operate the 12 gauge pump not only as a formidable tool for things that go bump in the night, but to learn its capabilities and shortcomings (hostage rescue). Suarez' TSG addresses all the best techniques and provides much supplemental material for applying these techniques using different operating systems (Rem/Mossberg slide/pump, semi-autos).

It's all here: patterning with buckshot/shot, one/two-hand operations, slings and modes of carry, tactical and emergency reloads, indexing, loading a slug on demand, position shooting, and transitioning to sidearm/secondary weapon. The book is filled with excellent photographs which document the above techniques. Suarez' skill as a trainer clearly shows in the effectiveness of presentation.

Although I'd recommend studying the defensive shotgun in a practical setting, this book is a great way to see what should be covered in such a course. If you don't have social shotgun skills, there's no time like the present. Social unrest, home invasion, nuisance animals--do it now.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST shotgunning guide their is!   January 3, 2007
Anyone that is going to or has used a Shotgun in a defensive or offensive way needs to read and study this book. To must its considered one the best and most definitive practical approach and review of the shotgun.

5 out of 5 stars Great Job   November 10, 2006

Gabriel Suarez has done a great job in The Tactical Shotgun. The book gives info on ammo, patterning, stopping power, models and accessories, tactical manuvering, firing positions, close quarters, shooting at night, and a number of training drills.

If you have a shotgun, and you want to learn how to effectively use it in a combative situation, then this book will provide you with a wealth of good information. Lots of good illustrations and pictures. I'm thoroughly pleased.

5 out of 5 stars Serious Book   April 11, 2006

This book is really for LEO's but a person looking at personal defense can use at least 20% of it. That much makes it worth the price of the book. There are no wasted pages on superfluous topics or page fillers. If you want cut and dried info about using a shotgun in tactical situations this one covers almost all of what you need to know.

5 out of 5 stars Informative Book!   October 23, 2005

I am a novice in the use of shotgun and I thought that this book to be very informative. Mr. Suarez covered many different aspects. This book is NOT about The Touchy-Touchy-Feel-Good Shotgun. If you want a touchy-touchy-feel-good-book this is NOT a book for you. If you want to be a victim that needs to beg for his/her life, needs someone else to protect them-don't read this book. If you are a bleeding heart-this book is not for you. If you expect the government/police to protect you 1-this book is not for you 2-you need a reality check (see New Orleans). This book is for people that have already decided to be a survivor and need information; this is a book about THE TACTICAL SHOTGUN.
