A reminder it's about relationship October 9, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
A good story, though the writing on the first few pages is a difficult slog. For all you theological purists, this s-t-o-r-y reminds us it's about understanding God -- not understanding about God.

I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship of the Trinity as discussed in this book. I knew the book was fiction, however I did read the back pages written by the author before reading the book as it gave me a better understanding of where he was coming from in regards to the life's ups and downs described in the book. I felt that I was closer to the Jesus and the Trinity of the Bible in this book than in the institutions of religions. The author's way of describing each made me feel close to them.
Read it - for the enjoyment and for the glimpse into God's love. October 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
God has given William Young a gift. His gift is communication of God's love to common, everyday people.
The Shack has to be one of the most uplifting, freeing books I have ever read. Inasmuch as it made me feel freed, it made me feel that much more inspired to serve God to the fullest. I didn't feel that the author's point was to convert readers into "churched" Christians who can quote scripture. If you're reading it for that, you will be sorely disappointed. I felt that he was trying to get all Christians and non-Christians to visually and emotionally experience the depths of God's love. Even here he explains that we can never comprehend it here on Earth. But the glimpses it revealed were breathtaking.
For those who say that the content contradicts scripture, I would have to disagree. I was wary of that, as I have encountered much Christian literature that twists and contradicts the true word of God. For me it painted a visual picture of what Jesus Christ was trying to get across to us. Love God. Love each other. The rest is just detail work. I felt the whole time that I was reading it as if I were looking at a painting of God. It drew me in, and refueled my certainty in God's love.
It is a modern day parable that will profoundly impact the lives of many - particularly those who realize that none of us "gets it" perfectly right when it comes to God. We don't see the world through God's eyes, but we can have faith in his love for humanity. People who think they've got it all figured out are usually the most off-base. If you would like to read the Bible, read it. This book is not the Bible, so don't be disappointed when you read it and it's not. I love to immerse myself in Biblcal scripture and to learn the historical and theological truths it contains. I was not threatened by the content of The Shack. Read it. It is simply wonderful.
amazing book for all teens and adults....must read October 8, 2008 I began ready this book and was very excited, i love the heart tugging story that streach your imnagination to think "is this really real?" this book is awesome! i am seventeen years old and dislike literature class, i am not the type of person to pick up a book and read it, there must be something truely special to get my interest... everyday i go to class and give my neighbor a recap of what i read the previous night. this book is worth the money and the time to read it!!!!
Disappointed October 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I should have known that this was not a book true to the Gospel since it is on a secular best seller list. It kept my interest for a long time but once the father goes back to the "shack", the book goes off track. As long as the reader knows that this is fiction and that it has the author's own interpretation of what the Bible says, I don't see a problem with it. The problem comes in when it confuses new Christians or nonbelievers. Books that contain a grain of truth but are mostly false do more damage than good for those of us who care about people's eternal destination.
