A Deserving Book April 24, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
That certainly warrants National Acclaim- by Author Paul D. Cohn, "Sao Tome". Sao Tome: Journey to the Abyss--Portugal's Stolen Children
~A lasting message for all of us~ April 24, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I really enjoy books that force the reader to give pause and really think about the deeper issues of life. It seems like in our time people notice the forest but miss each individual tree of that forest and that is a shame really. I have watched the lecture and now I have permanent copy in book form of this wonderful lecture given by Randy Pausch. I am extremely thankful that Randy didn't bog this book down with religious non-sense as I would have tuned out the entire message. Randy has spoken and written about the art of dying with dignity, as a human. The main idea of this book is that each of us has choice in what attitude we will take in any given situation that life presents to us and we have either a good attitude or bad one with varying degrees in between.
Buy for everyone you know April 23, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm buying this book for each of my children. The pearls of wisdom are shared in a funny, poignant way. Thanks, Randy.
Much better than, "THE SECRET" April 23, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
And this is probably not a secret since so many people have been reading this book! What a great book, what a wonderful man, what great life lessons he has to offer.
Preferred the lecture and Interview April 22, 2008 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
In all mediums, Randy shows exceptional courage and grace in this real-time tragic situation. I found the book good, somewhat overlapping the lecture, providing interesting details.... I found the details on his wife and children more interesting having already seen the lecture. I had hoped for more philosophical reflections rather than stories, but that's apparently his communication choice and style. His intensity and certitude left me wondering what he was like before the cancer diagnosis. In fact, other than his talent for communicating, and substantial professional achievements, I think we are left with very little idea of what the man is like aside from his consistent messages of working hard and having fun, but that may be unrealistic realizing that the book was by necessity,a rushed book. It did relate a bit more perspective around the lecture itself which was interesting. It's a quick read, I suggest checking it out at the library for an afternoon read, unless you would like to buy it simply to benefit his family. The Diane Sawyer piece is good as well.
