Growing Up is So Painful! February 10, 2000 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you are alcoholic or know someone who is, this is an insightful read. If you know anything about golf (which I don't), it would make the book an even more intimate experience. Sharing Laura's journey is worth the time to see how thoughtlessly one's life can become completely out of control, if not life-threatening as well. 'Good luck, Laura: every day is like climbing a mountain, and drunk or sober, having 7 kids is more than a juggling act.'
THE MYSTERY SOLVED August 21, 1999 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
As a contempory of Ms. Baugh, I often wondered why this extremely gifted golfer would fail to win not only the BIG ONE, but ANY golf match as a pro. Ms. Baugh, in an honest approach, explains how alcohol became her best friend and a god to her. She tells of her early misses in golf tournaments and the later matches where alcohol caused her hands to shake. She fooled no one but herself and admits she is an alcoholic. An excellent book. Recomended to anyone who faces this problem or knows someone who faces this problem. A GREAT BOOK!!
A must read for everybody associated with an alcahol problem August 3, 1999 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
It only takes 4 hrs. to read this book. My daughter was at Betty Ford, I learned more about her problem from this book than all the pamphlets I received. I now have a better understanding of people with this problem than I ever did. I have a sense of guilt that I didn't reach out and try to be more understanding during her problem days. Thank you Laura for your truthfullnes.

Inspirational reading---devastatingly factual experiences June 22, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ms. Baugh's book was released at a time when I needed help in overcoming my own depression and frustrations as a golfer and as someone concerned about the amount of alcohol I consumed. Having already decided to stop drinking, I found the book the final step I needed to overcome the desire to continue to drink. As an amatuer, female golfer (6 handicap)I understood her need to drink because she felt she deserved it. The book is a real good "read". I read it out loud to my husband on a 700-mile trip. We throughly enjoyed her personal experiences and admire her efforts to reveal her private life.
