The time is NOW June 18, 2001 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Eckhart Tolle has conveyed, in his own words, the Presence of Being, which some people refer to as `Cosmic Consciousness'. This term was first coined by Dr R. M. Bucke 100 years ago and became the title of his own extraordinary study of the potential of Consciousness that we, Homo-Sapiens-Sapiens, have. The study points conclusively to the fact that we need look no further then "within ourselves". And, indeed, the time has always been NOW!The 80, or so, previous reviews provide ample evidence of the wisdom, the `Presence', in Eckhart's words. Instead of trying to say the same thing over again, but differently, I wish to provide a response to the question on page 105 re: the topic of "Slowing down the aging Process". There the questioner asks, "Is there any scientific evidence for this?" I have personally seen that there is. There are a number for studies prepared on the amazing longevity of the peoples of the Caucasus Mountains. Within that culture there is a practice they themselves refer to as Ahmusta Kebzeh. (Europeans and Russians refer to it as `Caucasian Yoga'). When one compares the wisdom contained in Eckhart Tolles words with the teachings of Kebzeh they have the distinct "feeling" of resonating from the same source. The works of Murat Yagan are an example of this resonance. Yagan has himself prepared detailed publications around the Circassian tradition of "Living Life Abundantly". Since Yagan and Tolle are literally (and figuratively) in each other's backyards I am look forward to the two of them getting together and sharing their wisdom someday. Be Well Ed Schulte
MY EXPERIENCE PRACTICING THE POWER OF NOW June 15, 2001 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
I found the Power of Now almost one year ago and have practiced it intensively since that time, including listening to most of the audiotapes and seeking out many workshops in order to be in the presence of this remarkable human whom I have come to love very deeply. I have talked to numbers of people who come to see him, many from strikingly different religious or spiritual paths, but all claim that Eckhart speaks the truth of their own path. He cuts right through to the essence of all spiritual teachings. Buddhist, Christian, A Course in Miracles...it doesn't matter. All can claim his teaching as their own. My year has been full of consistent, wonderous internal transformation. Eckhart describes exactly what will happen, and it does. He knows the process, the roadblocks so well, there are few surprises. And even with the aching longing to be permanently transformed, the practice itself, as he tells us, is beautiful. Full of wonder, really, at watching your Self unfold. But in order to get the most out of these simple "practices" you have to recognize this book's signifance and make it the most pressing priority of your life. Trust every word this gentle teacher tells you, for he speaks from the deepest possible truth. It is necessary not only for your own personal joy, but for that of your suffering brothers.
Quite good June 7, 2001 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book really does teach how to practice the Presence. I have found since starting it that I can remain without thoughts for 20 min or so. Feels good.
All We Need to Know June 2, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Indeed Eckhart Tolle's book "The Power of Now" is a powerful tool for opening into the vastness & peace of the "Now". In trying to apply his words by being aware of where my attention is, I have discovered how often my attention is in the past or future. I also discovered that when I can live NOW, almost miraculous things have sometimes taken place in my life. Tolle tells us that since we have based our lives on what we have been taught, our cultural heritage, DNA & how we have been treated, etc. everything we "think" possible is caged within the limited possibilities of that particular world which is based on our "past" experiences. So we expect the "future" to grow out of the "past". Very limited!! Therefore when you can be intensely present NOW, that world created by your mind drops away, & what is left is infinite possibility! I cannot recommend this book strongly enough, & if you are more auditory than visual, buy the tapes of Tolle reading his own book.
