Maximum Fitness Review January 7, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm about to enter the Army in a non-combat role but am still required to pass the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test). Not being in the best of shape, I was looking for something that would get me in Army condition ASAP. I tried many different workout routines that didn't help at all. After hearing about Stew Smith from a friend, I started following one of his workouts. Although the workout was tough, especially for me, I was AMAZED at how quickly I was able to progress. With that, I purchased this book and continue to be very satisfied. In addition to the workouts, the book is chockful of very useful information. With just a simple adjustment in my running technique, my knees no longer ache for days after a run. My advice - if you want to get in good shape for any purpose - following this book is the way to do it!!!!
you will get in shape November 21, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The workouts are tough, which is exactly what I wanted. The book could have been much better organized. You'll find yourself confused sometimes on what you're supposed to do - for example an exercise in the workout chart might have a different name in the explanation section. Like most any other routine, you'll get out of it what you put into it. You'll definately need additional material on nutrition. His chapter on that is very limited.
Great overall fitness book October 16, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am currently in my Universities Army ROTC program and was just looking for a new way to increase my PT scores and break the monotony of our training regimen. This book's program will improve your overall fintess (military geared of course) and the ability to contact Stew himself is just awesome.
Excellent October 2, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have ordered two of Stew's books now and each of them have helped me improve my PT scores for the military. I recommend any book that Stew has wrote. I am sure you will improve just as I have.

This is a great book if you are in decent shape and want to take your game to the next level, so to speak. It has a yearlong program that I think helps both in the short term and over a period of years. All the pictures and explanations make it so you can do the workouts even if you've never heard of a pushup before reading the book. Also, this program is less dependent on weight machines than others, until you get to the powerlifting phase. I plan on joining the military and these workouts are perfect for that kind of cross-training, non-specialized fitness. I've been doing Stew Smith's workouts for a few months now and I've made a yearlong plan combining this book and Smith's other "The Complete Guide to Navy Seal Fitness." If all goes as planned, I could see myself using this program for the rest of my life.
