2 out of 5 stars The Power of Positive Thinking, Redux   November 23, 2008

An inspiring, self-help approach to developing a positive outlook on life. The Secret is a quick read that will leave many readers with an upbeat perspective. On the other hand, the premise is a pop-culture, feel-good approach that, long-term, will do more to enrich the authors and publisher than anything else.

1 out of 5 stars A Silly Book   November 21, 2008

Perhaps it gives (false) hope to those that lack any imagination or drive. But here's the real secret: work hard, live simply, be frugal and save (invest) your money and follow the Golden Rule. The Secret assumes if you think it, it will happen. Not. Kinda like when Edgar Cayce put books under his pillow at night so he would absorb the contents while he slept... I tried that with math in school. Lots of F's followed.

Follow the Secret. Let us know how your life changes. Meanwhile, I'm going to write a book just like it and make a billion dollars. I'll call it Super Secrets of the Ancient Masters of Atlantis. Look for it. It'll change your life (I promise) and enrich mine nicely. See? Win-Win.

2 out of 5 stars not a big fan   November 21, 2008

I bought this book a while back but just started reading it...not what I expected. I was debating whether to get this book or "The Last Lecture", and I opted to get this book. I don't understand how this book got such good reviews because it's pretty redundant and is not very insightful, it talks about the laws of attraction and how "like attracts like". I have not finished reading the book, but from what I have read, I'm not a big fan.

4 out of 5 stars Does it really work???   November 20, 2008

"The Secret" promises a lot of great stuff but does it really deliver?

During this period of economic uncertainty we want hope, we want a better future--more abundance, more prosperity in all areas of life. "The Secret" offers hope and a confidence that you can achieve your dream with intention and focus. That's nice to hear but I found it lacked a clear plan of action.

I wanted some clear, practical and easy to follow steps that applied to my life.

I also found "The Secret" was too narrow in its focus. Self-growth isn't just about getting stuff but it's also about the person you become along the way.

I suggest "The Secret" for an inspiring read and " Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don't " for step-by-step approach. To expand your understanding and wisdom you've got to read "Nexus: A Neo Novel."

I bought all three at a great price! I love when Amazon gives special offers on book I enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars The Secret is no mystery   November 20, 2008

When I first read and saw the secret it really motivated me to truly apply the LOA. I have always known about this law through the Seth materials and various new age writers from the 70s and 80s, but with the high production values it added a different perspective to the whole topic. I know many people criticize this book a lot. But this was never meant to be the end all be all of the LOA , but an introduction to it. I also find it disconcerting that people harshly criticize it for not being "spiritual". The main criticism is that it focuses on material well being above all else. Well, I don't see what the issue is. Why not? I think the concept that material wealth and health as not being spiritual is based on outdated ideas of what is spiritual and what is not. All things are God and anything including excessive spirituality can be detrimental. It's about finding harmony. Through the Secret I was introduced to Joe Vitale and James Arthur Ray, both these authors have been vital to my growth. I think this is a good book to have.
