this is such an uplifting reminder of some basic principals, to have this book on CD, for when i'm traveling or just around the house is great, makes housework and all tasks easier, lighter and even enjoyable.

After all the glamor of "The Secret"--a beautiful cover, well produced DVD, a host of contributors and being featured on Oprah, what does the book really add to self-development? The idea that you can change your life is important. The question is where to start?

I found this book repeated the same basic idea over and over: Think positive and feel good. "The Secret" offered little in the way of real growth or practical solutions. I knew the idea of a "secret" was for marketing. Still I couldn't help wanting there to be a real secret revealed.

Well, there ain't no secret just what we've always known: Maintain a positive attitude. After all is said and done something's missing from this whole approach. I wish someone would reveal the real secret.

If you are at all curious about this, I'd say get the DVD. It's well-produced and less boring than the book. Better still read "Nexus: A Neo Novel" an unusual book about people drawn to a spiritual retreat.

1 out of 5 stars Not at all impressed!   November 7, 2008

I had heard much about this book, but after reading it, I feel I just wasted my money. I have read other books that had much more interesting language and ideas- this one was hard to read, hard to understand and most of all, not worth my time, money or trouble.

1 out of 5 stars Not such a secret!   November 3, 2008

This book is so hugely popular and I can't really figure out why.
I thought the book was very repetitive. I felt like I was reading the same things over and over. The book could probably have been cut in half!

OK, the book... Well I do believe in positive thinking. I do believe that positive thinking can help you in your life. I think that if you think neg. all the time you will actually stop good things from happening. I also think that when you are a negative person you attract other neg. people. If you are looking for a new job and you are always thinking "I will never find a good job, there are no jobs out there, whats the use?" etc. how hard are you actually going to try to get a new job? but if you are thinking "I know I can get a better job, I have lots of experience, someone will want to hire me." you are going to be trying harder to find a job. So the way you think does directly affect you.

If you are a natural "neg. thinker" those neg. thoughts will bring you down. If you are a pos. thinker you will just naturally be a happier person because positive thought bring on other pos. thoughts. You will also be a more attractive person with a more pos. attitude and you ill attract better people.

I feel the same way about worrying, Worrying has no purpose in life! It doesn't solve anything, it does not get you anywhere, it does not make you feel better! It is a total waste of time! My husband and daughter are both worrisome people. I am always telling them, you are wasting your time and energy worrying, worrying does not change the outcome of the problem. The only thing worrying does is bring you down. I do NOT worry! I know this sounds impossible but I really try hard and put forth the effort not to worry. My husband is always telling me "I don't know how you can't worry about this!" He gets mad at me because I don't worry. LOL funny huh?

On the other hand... I do not believe that thinking can bring you material things! Maybe thinking pos. thoughts made you go out and try harder to get what you want, but pos. thinking does not just make things appear by themselves.

"The Secret" is about getting what you want by knowing what you want and thinking about it positively all the time. It gets this concept across really well and is a quite entertaining book.
