I have to admit, I really enjoyed The Host. Going into it I wasn't quite sure what to expect but was hooked after a few chapters. Some may call her female characters weak but I see quite the opposite. I think it takes the strongest of people to be so sacrificing for the ones they love. This is shown once again in The Host with Melanie and Wanderer. My only complaint is that I still didn't feel like I was reading an adult novel. Kind of the same problem I had with the Twilight series. I wanted a little more maturity out of her writing this time around, and while the emotion was definitely there, I think her writing could still use some improvement. However, I'd still highly recommend this book.

I listen to this on audio CD. It was lent to me and I loved it. It was my 1st audio and I had to go buy a portable CD player so I could listen at work I was so hooked. I found excuses to run to the store in the evening so I could listen and find out what happened next, I recommend this to anyone.

this book was one of the worst I have ever read, and I wanted to finish this book because I loved the Twilight Sagas, but it was a real chore to finish this one....it dragged, and dragged and like many of the other people writing poor reviews of this book, I agree with them....This book is boring and if you are looking for a good read that makes you excited, this book is NOT for you.

i got the book, and its in perfect condition,
looks fine....
but when i open it from the front cover, i realize that the book binding is flipped.
instead of having the imprint of little, brown publishing on the front, it is on the bottom back.
it doesn't really affect me,
but i thought that i should share this information

I thought this was a fantastic concept that worked much of the time but then got a bit bogged down towards the end by the same thing I think tripped up the twilight series: Meyers gushing romanticism. An alien species has taken over the earth. They are peaceful beings that have basically eradicated mankind because of their need for violence and destruction. The problem is, our host body, formerly a human named Melanie has not left the body she's in, and she begins to fight for control. Soon the alien, named Wanderer, and Melanie find Melanie's former lover/savior, her younger brother and a rag tag band of charming human survivors hiding in the Arizona desert. Obviously their is massive mistrust among the humans as to what this alien is doing among them, and this drives what is some of the best parts of the book. Then the romance starts. And for an advertised "adult novel" I didn't find it so far off from Bella and Robert of the Twilight series. There's nothing inappropriate in the book, frankly there's not even any off color language. What I'm attempting to say is that people who love that series will probably really take to this as well. Had I never read one of them I think I would've found alot of the relationship ideas fresh. But knowing what I do the romance element came off a bit recycled. The book also could've ended at least twice,and finally does with a tagged on epilogue that not only wraps up what preceded, but opens a door to a sequel should she decide to write it.
