A man with a plethora of knowledge. October 30, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have read several of Mr. Christensens novels, along with several of his recommendations. He is a man to be listened to. He explains a myriad of techniques and drills so that the average person can understand. I am a student of Kung Fu San Soo, yet I can apply and gain understanding from much of what he says. I look forward to reading more of his literature. Here's to a well-versed Man from my home town!!!
CHOCK FULL INFORMATION July 26, 2001 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am a practicing Dai do juku student in Japan. This book has helped me become faster, and stronger against opponents. Being my sytle is full contact, almost no rules all these tips and are very useful even to the very experinced fighter who might have forgotten a thing or two. A very good memory refresher. Buy it and ENJOY!
Many ideas, too many words, too few pictures. March 13, 2001 15 out of 23 found this review helpful
This book comes highly recommended, so I bought it. It was not what I expected. It has a lot of info but maybe, for a martial artist with 30 years, my standards are too high. I found it crammed with lots of ideas rather randomly which I have come across after 30 years as an avid reader of martial arts books and magazines (as well as having studied seven martial arts formally ). The pictures were disappointing. There were far too few and if there were more techniques illustrated, the book would be quite a different buy.All said, the author is credible as a fighter/instructor. I would recommend it for younger martial artists and new black belts, not veteran instructors. Perhaps, the author would take my comments to re do the book - the intended objective is promising.
The Best Martial Arts Book Ever Written! January 24, 2001 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Fighter's Fact Book has quickly become one of the best martial arts book ever written. It has set a new standard, one in which all other books are being measured to. Loren W. Christensen has studied, practiced, trained, and taught martial arts for over 35 years; now how he has put all he knows into this incredible book. I have wasted a lot of money and time on many other training books, but none even compared to Fighter's Fact Book. Regardless of your style, or if you are a white belt or a tenth degree black belt ninja, Christensen has something to teach you. His book has helped me focus my training, and instead of going with the motions in class, now I am excelling. Huge, huge thanks to Loren W. Christensen and Turtle Press. It is about time somebody got it right!
This book almost substitutes for training under Loren. December 22, 2000 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I've had the pleasure and privilege of training with and under Loren Christensen. He's one of those rare induviduals who is a truely great fighter AND instructor. Loren is also an excellent writer. The Fighter's Fact Book covers a broad area, yet it provides the essentials to just about every aspect of the martial arts. Loren teaches from a realistic fighting aspect and he does so with a sense of humor. If you haven't read his other books, you'll finish this and buy his others on Amazon. If you have read his other books, chances are this will be your favorite.Ted Weimann, author of WARRIOR SPEED.
